Next Training: Sometime fall 2025 via Zoom

Please make application for fall training using the application form in the 3 steps below.

Training consists of two parts:

1) working through our curriculum online week by week in Trainual and

2) meeting by Zoom with our trainers to discuss the curriculum and practice listening skills.

Curriculum topics include:

  • Week 1:  Orientation. Meet our trainers Debbie Cazander and Janet Hitchcock
  • Week 2:  Telecare 101, Spiritual Issues of the Caller, Volunteer Self-Care
  • Week 3:  Listening, Communication
  • Week 4:  Caring Confrontation, The Caller
  • Week 5:  Mental Health, Personality Disorders, and Brain Injuries
  • Week 6:  Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention
  • Week 7: Grief, Loneliness
  • Week 8:  Addictions, Abuse, and Anger Management
  • Week 9: Learn our software (called iCarol) to manage calls and chats and practice taking calls with a trainer helper at your side.

Sessions will focus on how to show emotional and spiritual support (if requested) for people struggling with the issues noted above. You will also learn about how to apply to become a volunteer, complete important forms, and move toward taking calls and chat messages. While training does not require service, we hope you will. You have so much to gain.

Volunteers need to be committed Christians, at least 19 years of age and residing in Canada.
